MY SISTER,
THE TODZILLA
High octane picture book design
My Sister, the Todzilla, is a fun and energetic picture book about a little boy whose younger sister turns into a bit of a monster when she needs a nap. I collaborated with the illustrator, Matt Shanks, to come up with the idea of borrowing comic book and kaiju aesthetics to really dig into the idea that this little toddler becomes a rampaging monster in the eyes of her brother.
A bold, complementary colour palette makes the cover design instantly eye-catching both on the shelf and in thumbnail form on e-commerce sites, with the large ypography being hard to ignore. When seen in-person, the book's appeal is also increased with spot gloss finishes over the cover illustrations and an embossed title. The bright yellow spine stands out among other titles when shelved.
Inside, the custom, comic-influenced typography makes the book fun to read and matches the energy of the story.
